When I was young, my mother and I would take long walks along the Wildwood Crest, New Jersey beaches looking for shells. We each had a plastic bucket in which we collected whole shiny shells. Chipped bright white shells. Ridged slate blue shells.
In my many turns to reach the life I live at age 52, my mother no longer with me on our complicated planet, I told my husband Bill, “Hey. I always wanted to make jewelry from shells.”
“Great. Let’s go to the beach and find some.”
In June 2023, Bill and I started collecting shells from New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida beaches. With a photo of my mother, and her mother too, lovingly sitting next to my creative space, I created a&b jewlery. One-of-a-kind pieces made just for you.

The empty shells you find on the beach are often hundreds of years old, maybe even thousands! You can even find fossils dating back more than 100,000 to millions of years ago.
